The Hot Chick Workout: Why I Filmed a Chicken-Inspired Workout in My Backyard
The Hot Chick Workout: A Throwback to Backyard Fitness, Chickens & Joyful Movement
Six years ago, I set up my camera in the backyard, surrounded by chickens, and hit record.
I wasn’t trying to go viral. I didn’t have a polished setup. I definitely wasn’t thinking about angles or hashtags.
I filmed that workout because it felt silly and fun.
Because chickens are the best.
And because I wanted to share something lighthearted with my community.
I called it The Hot Chick Workout—because of course I did. 😄
Back then, I was deep in the early days of building my business. Living in the rhythm of seasons, raising animals, and finding joy in simple movement. No fancy gym. No pressure. Just me, my chickens, and some functional movement that felt good in my body.
And honestly? It’s the kind of movement I still believe in.
Movement doesn’t have to be “serious” to be supportive.
This video is your permission slip to let movement be:
→ Featherlight and fun
→ Imperfect on purpose
→ Occasionally interrupted by a chicken stealing your mat
You don’t need perfect form, a full hour, or matching activewear to show up for yourself.
Sometimes a few minutes outside—while a bird tries to peck your shoelace—is exactly what your nervous system needed.
I’m all for strength training, consistency, and smart programming.
But there’s a reason this silly backyard video still holds a special place in my heart.
It reminds me that playfulness is productive.
And joy is a legitimate training goal.
