Why PMS Isn’t Normal: 3 Root Causes You’ve Never Heard

If you’ve been told PMS is just part of being a woman, I’m here to lovingly call BS on that.

Mood swings.
Breast tenderness.
Bloating.
Cravings.
That “I’m losing my mind” rage or sobbing before your period?

None of that is “just part of being you.”

It’s not your personality — it’s your physiology trying to get your attention.
And when you learn to listen to it, everything can change.

In this post (and my full YouTube video), I’m breaking down 3 root causes of PMS that no one is talking about — especially not your doctor.
So you can stop suffering, stop Googling how to survive my luteal phase, and start feeling like yourself all month long.

Root Cause #1: Blood Sugar Imbalance

Most women think cravings and irritability before their period are just hormonal.
But spoiler: they’re often blood sugar issues in disguise.

When your glucose is swinging high and low all day — from caffeine, skipping meals, or living on high-carb snacks —
you’re spiking cortisol, tanking progesterone, and making your PMS symptoms 10x worse.

This isn’t about cutting carbs or going keto.
It’s about learning when and how to fuel your body based on where you are in your cycle.

My client Daniella, for example, started following phase-based nutrition guidelines — especially reducing caffeine.
Her skin calmed down, her luteal phase became so much easier, and her emotional and physical PMS symptoms dropped dramatically.
That’s the power of stable blood sugar.
Root Cause #2: Low Progesterone (and High Stress)

Anxiety, breast tenderness, can’t-sleep energy, weepiness, spotting…
These are classic signs of low progesterone — and the big driver behind it? Stress.

Overtraining.
Undereating.
Ignoring your body’s signals and pushing through.

My client Beck reported:

“I just had one of the most symptom-free luteal phases and one of the easiest periods in a while!
This luteal phase I didn’t have any bloating (which has been a cyclical symptom for me),
and my anxiety/depression that I tend to get in my luteal phase was significantly improved!”

That’s what happens when you support progesterone and create a body that feels safe enough to regulate.

Root Cause #3: Nervous System Dysregulation

If your nervous system is constantly in fight-or-flight, your hormones can’t find balance.
You can’t produce enough progesterone.
You can’t digest well.
You can’t recover.

Hillary shared after doing a bleed phase mobility session:

“Truly. I’m blown away. I’m super loving the permission to slow down and take time to understand my cycle more.
Thank you Omega. I’m seeing the magic that these 90 days is bringing/unfolding/creating ❤️”

That’s what happens when your nervous system finally gets the memo that it’s safe to slow down.

The Takeaway

If you’re dealing with any of this, it doesn’t mean you’re broken.
It just means your body is asking for something different.

This is why I’m so passionate about educating women on what’s really going on beneath their PMS symptoms.

Because when you support your body — rather than fighting it —
you can create lasting hormonal change without extreme diets, expensive labs, or giving up your life every luteal phase.
